I lost my best friend to cancer and now I make as many hats and lap throws as I can for the chemo rooms at various hospitals. I love new hat patterns. Yours are delightful and will make a wonderful addition to the hat wardrobe I send next.

OK, 6 HOURS LATER OF TRYING TO MAKE THIS HAT WITH THESE DIRECTIONS, IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN... NO MATTER WHAT SIZE HOOK I USE OR YARN... IT WILL NOT SHAPE TO THE HAT IN THE PICTURE HERE, THE PICTURE OF THE HAT IS BEAUTIFUL BUT THE PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT ACCURATE. GIVE SOME FURTHER INSTRUCTION IF POSSIBLE...

Gah!

It's a gorveous pattern - beautiful, and I've tried it about four or five times now. Everytime I do, it comes out too small or just doesn't shape right; I count my stitches, I've checked my gauge, and it just isn't ending up right. In order to get gauge, I'm using a K hook; I checked it and all, it just ends up flat and... wrong shaped.

Obviously, though, I'm doing something wrong, judging by the success everyone else has had!

Hi Anna, that's a tough question for me. I don't know how to decrease a pattern or increase a pattern, but I'll give this a shot for you. Since the pattern says it measures 7 1/2 inches at the end of round 12, you will need to keep adding increase rounds until your piece measures 7 1/2 inches across. So, round 13, would have 5 sts then 2 in same st, round 14 would have 6 sts then 2 in same st, round 15 would have 7 sts then 2, and so on until the piece measures 7 1/2 inches. Then just follow the pattern from the original round 13 on. The numbers in ( ) at the end of the rounds will be different, but that shouldn't matter to the outcome of the pattern.

I rarely work with a G hook since I'm always in a hurry to finish a project. I like working with the larger hooks. Good luck with your project, and let me know how it turns out for you.

Oh, Ann Rose, I'm so glad you didn't let those stitches intimidate you. I bet you looked pretty in your Easter refinery. Your husband sounds like he has a great sense of humor. I wish you the best of luck in your job interview. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Please come back to let me know if you get the job or not. What a great place to work!

When I saw the picture of "Sweetness, I just knew I had to try it, even though the crossed stitches intimidated me a little. I was able to complete it in two hours, and had a marvelous time wearing it yesterday as my "Easter bonnet with all the frills upon it". I think I'll make another one in a different color -- RH "Ocean" reminds my husband and myself of surgical scrubs, and the first time I put the hat on, he said, "And when are you scrubbing in, Doctor?"

I'm going to wear it with pride today to an interview for a job at a new local yarn shop -- it'll be my little bit of luck (and show off my skills)!

Thanks K. Anne. Sometimes pictures explain it better than any words could. I need to start using visuals more often.
