Hi Joann, thanks for the information.
 | | | Joann February 3, 2006 12:01 PM PST
received your email, but I thought I would respond here incase more people wanted to answers to the same question. Here is what I figured out -- chain an even number that when divided by 2 is an odd number. Make sure the chain will fit the child that you are making the poncho for.
 | | | Dot February 2, 2006 03:57 PM PST
Hi Joann, I sent you an email. I'm glad your getting compliments on your poncho. I bet it's beautiful.
 | | | Joann February 2, 2006 03:18 PM PST
I posted this on a different page. I loved the Gentle Ripple poncho. It was so quick and easyand everyone I have shown it to loves it. Is it possible to convert it down for a child? I would love to make this for my granddaughter, but have never taken a large pattern and made it smaller but have enlarged a pattern. I don't have a homepage, but my email is jengallina@houston.rr.com

Hi, I have just discovered your patterns. I am relieved to have found them as I have been searching around my home town for years for decent patterns. Knitting is the favourite past time here, which I also dabble at, not always successfully. I have been enjoying crochet since the age of 8/9 I am now 40 years old. look forward to having a go with some of your other creations.

Thanks Dot, just ran out and bought some yarn and now I am off to a relaxing (I hope) afternoon. If I run into any problems...I will be sure to write you :)

Hi Gayle. Thank you, I'm glad you found my site and I hope you enjoy the patterns you find here. Since I don't know how small you are it's not easy to guess what you need to do, but I want to say that the ponchos will probably fit you without any adjustments at all. You can probably tell after a few rounds whether you want to make it smaller or not, then if you do, just use a hook 1 or 2 sizes smaller. Sorry to be so vague, but I'm so bad with sizing. Good luck with your projects and happy hookin'.
 | | | Gayle September 14, 2005 09:39 AM PDT
Hi Dot,
Just found your website and LOVE IT. I just have a question, I am into ponchos but I am small, the ponchos that say one size up to 2x would I need to change to a smaller needle, thinner yarn or just have to make it smaller. Hate to get so complicated but I love your patterns and want to make sooooooooo many of them.
 | | | Dot August 13, 2005 10:21 PM PDT
Thanks Patty. I'm glad you like it. Your poncho sounds lovely. I'd love to see your completed outfit when you finish it.
 | | | Patty August 13, 2005 09:49 PM PDT
Hi Dot, Another masterpiece. I made this one, just finished it tonight. I used yarn that I bought at a resale shop. It looked like hand spun yarn, but was from Red Heart. I don't think they sell it anymore. It is in like a taupe. It turned out great. Thanks so much for these patterns. Now I have enough yarn left for a hat. Which to choose???
 | | | Dot July 18, 2005 11:40 AM PDT
Thank you Judy, I'm glad you like my patterns. What a wonderful thing you and your crochet group are doing. I hope you do use some of my patterns for your cause. In that way, I get to be a small part of your charitable donations. Thank you.
The CRAB STITCH is also called a REVERSE SINGLE CROCHET. It's done the same way as a single crochet only backwards. If you're right handed, you would do the stitch by inserting the hook (from the front to the back)in the last stitch you made to your right. Then, grab the yarn with your hook and pull it through the stitch. Then yarn over and pull the yarn through the stitch, just like you would to complete a regular single crochet.
If you don't understand my instructions, follow the link to Crochet Cabanna, on my front page, on the left side column, under my favorite learning sites. She has a wonderful way of explaining stitches and I've learned a lot from her site. You can also use google and type in "crochet crab stitch" without the quotes and you'll get a list of places you can look.
Hope I've been a little help to you.

I love all your patterns. It is hard to decide which to make first. I was looking at patterns in a book and came across this stitch...crab stitch..I am a self taught crocheter.I have never seen this stitch. Can you tell me about it?
I belong to a group that crochet for our soldiers and their family.I think some of the women will love the pochos.
Thank you
May God Bless You.

Hi Kim. You're going to have quite a wardrobe of ponchos when you get through. This one will look great in your mainstays red. I can't wait to hear how your doing with it.
 | | | kim Wyatt July 10, 2005 01:52 PM PDT
Hello again, now I am making this one, I love it in red and I have been looking for a pattern to use my walmart mainstays autum red with.
 | | | Dot June 9, 2005 01:12 PM PDT
Hi Shelly. Thank you, I'm glad you like my patterns. Your suggestion is a good one and I'll try to remember to do that in the future. I don't know how "beginner" you are, but if you know the basic stitches, how to count stitches, how to read patterns, then, you should be able to do most of my patterns. It's hard for me to say how hard or easy my patterns are because I've been crocheting for over 40 years and it just comes easy to me. I believe if you just jump right in and try a pattern you'll find it's a lot simpler than it looks. Just remember to take one step at a time with the patterns and it should turn out great. Good luck with your crocheting.

I AM A BEGGINER. I LOVE YOUR PATTERNS. BUT I NEED TO KNOW IF THEY ARE EASY HARD OR MEDIUM. COULD YOU PLEASE PUT THAT ON THERE?

Thank you so much for your kind words, Barbara. I really appreciate your thoughts. I do get a great deal of pleasure from sharing my patterns. I'm glad you like them and I hope you have as much fun making them as I did creating them.

Dot, I, too, went to IP's web site and saw some beautiful things...and beautiful prices!! Yikes!! This is what I meant about your generosity with your talent. I would love to be able to have the patterns to make the little girl dresses for my granddaughter but unless you money, you can't have the patterns. There are very few people like you. But then you realize that the blessings that you give to others will come around to you again. I wish I could express how much your kindness and giving means to me and to others. You are a blessing. Anytime I could do something for you, I will. If not, then I will just pass on your blessings. Thank you for letting me have my say...LOL. Gentle Hugs for you. Barbara

Hi I. P. Thank you for your compliment. I looked at your site and you have some very beautiful things for sale there. If you are asking for my permission to sell my items on your site, I prefer that you do not.

Thank you, Barbara. I truly appreciate your kind words. I get a great deal of satisfaction out of sharing my patterns. I'm especially warmed when I hear of someone using them to donate items to charity.
Now, about the selling...If I tried to sell the patterns, I'm absolutely positive that I would not be able to design another project because then it would be "work" and that takes all the fun out of it for me. I've tried to sell my items in the past, many years ago, and as soon as I placed a price tag on an item it became tedious and it was all I could do to finish it.
 | | | Barbara Faver April 30, 2005 04:54 PM PDT
Dot, I have watched over the months as you have created some of the most gorgeous patterns for hats and ponchos and just haven't taken the time to tell you how much I admire your talent. I know there are others with talent, too, but there is one more thing in your possession that others don't have.....the kindness and willingness to share the patterns without charging. You have probably thought of doing so many times but I thank you for not doing so. It makes it so much nicer to know that someone is willing to touch other lives through their talent. Blessings to you always.

This poncho is one of the prettier ones that I have seen. Sometimes it's hard to find a pattern that breaks free from all the similar ones that are out there. I am excited to get to work on this one, it's so unique!

Hi, Dot,
I'm simply blown away by your lovely designs! Hard to choose from.
But the Gentle Ripples poncho looks wonderful to me, just the thing for me to make from some black yarn for a 'dressy' poncho.
Thanks again for your exquisite designs.
