by the way, for all you newbies. This poncho only took 15 hours to make. It only took me 3 days to finish. So get hooking. OHmygod, what's not what I meant. Lord, y'all know what I mean.

This is a very good project for beginners. I used an I size hook like indicated but I realize that an H size hook would have been perfect as well. I'm a size 12 5 foot 5 and my chest size is 40 inches around. I used Caron Simply Soft in a lavender. It came out beautiful. Thank you , Dot. God Bless you sweetheart.

As I was copying the pattern, I discovered that if I clicked on the photo it would take me to PhotoBucket and a MUCH bigger and clearer image. Some of the photos on the actual pattern are too small to see the detail, but on PhotoBucket they are very detailed and easy to see. (Hope this isn't a repetition of an existing comment!)
LOVE this pattern!
Thanks!

Dot,
I have made some very nice items in the past, mostly afghans and scarves. I decided to be daring and try something for myself. I can't believe I could actually make a poncho so beautiful. I can't wait to wear it Easter Sunday. Thank you, Dot, for your beautiful and easy to follow pattern. I will definitely refer all my friends to your site.

Hi Tricia. I don't see why not. I'd suggest not joining the first few rounds, but other than that, I don't know how to go about making it into a skirt. Try playing around with it and see what you come up with it. Good luck. Let me know how it turns out, if you try it.

Hi Lily, sorry you seem to be having a problem with the size of this poncho. I don't know what the problem might be. Let me know how it turns out using the larger hook and yarn. I'm glad you like the pattern and I do hope you'll be able to use it.

Hi Dot!

I started to make this poncho using worsted weight yarn, in Red Heart Soft. For some reason, I'm finding that I'll have to do twice as many rows as called for in the pattern to make it long enough for a poncho. I wonder why this is? Your stitches look much bigger than mine. I checked my gauge and it seems to be correct. I have thought about using a chunky suede yarn and a larger hook for a change. Hopefully, that will work! I really love, love, love this pattern! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thank you, Celeste, I'm glad you like my patterns. I'm not good at all with sizing items, but you should be OK with this if you make the neck smaller and reduce the length, like you said. Using a smaller hook will also reduce the size of the poncho. Good luck with your project.

I love your beautiful designs! You do very nice work.

I am hoping to make two ponchos for my girls and wondered if you would have suggestions about sizes. My oldest daughter fits a size 10-12 and my youngest fits a 5t. I was wandering if it would work for the elegant lace pattern to make the neck smaller for one or both and for my littlest girl, make it shorter by 4 rows so it is not too long.

Any suggestions would be great. Also, about how long would you estimate the original design to take to crochet?

Thanks,
Celeste

I'm glad you like my patterns, Marie. Sorry about the lack of printer friendly pages, but I'm computer illiterate.

You can print the patterns without all the extra junk, if you just highlight the pattern, click on FILE, PRINT, then when your printer dialog box opens, click on SELECTION, and then OK or whatever you click on to print.

Be sure before you print that your pattern is still highlighted, or it won't work.

You can also highlight the pattern, copy it and save it to your own pc where you can print it out whenever you want.

Hi Kim, I love gemstone! I can't wait to see your poncho. I think your other post is on my Patterns by Dot site. You were concerned about the neckline being too tight. Did that work out for you? I don't know what causes the ripples, but I think I did try to cram too many stitches in some of the rows. lol I look forward to seeing your pictures.

Hi, I don't know where my post from a few days ago went. I made this poncho in redheart super saver gemstone and it came out really pretty. Mine did come out ruffley, maybe because I'm lefthanded? I'll send you a photo as soon as a I get one. BTW this would also make a pretty skirt.

July 2, 2005   04:27 PM PDT

I'm using a 4mm hook, and my gauge is 9 sc per 2", so I just made the beg ch a third longer. Otherwise I use 2.5mm hooks, since I anyway don't get all the specific yarns mentioned in the patterns. That's what comes of not living in the USA, I guess...
Anyway, I've just finished round 8. I think I haven't bought enough yarn, I'll have to get more.

Hi Rachel, I'm curious what size hook you're using. I'm glad you were able to figure out how to adjust the pattern to suit your needs. I can't wait to hear how it turns out. Hi Dot,

I began making this poncho yesterday - my first poncho, the first of your patterns I've began and the first time I'm using a biggish hook.
Since I only have 2 hooks I had to adjust the beginning chain and started from 120. This didn't help - after the increasing on rounds 3&4 my stitches wouldn't divide by 8. I adjusted round 7 and missed out on 4 stitches so it should be alright now but I wanted to say that the beginning chain isn't enough, it has to be right for round 9 and that's what's important.
Also thank you for the pattern, I hope I'll finish it and wear it. I'm only at round 8 now but am surprised at how easy it is - I thought those crossed stitches would be harder. They are just very time consuming...
Thank you!

Thank you, Darlene. Highlight the pattern only, right click and choose print on the pop up menu, when your printer pop up opens, you should see a section called "print range" where you can choose to print all, or designated pages or selection. choose selection then click on OK. That will print only what you have highlighted.

Hi Judy, I guess it would depend on how "tiny" your friend is. This poncho drapes nicely and as long as it doesn't slip off her shoulders, you can make it any length you want. If you see you need to make the neck line smaller, just be sure to have your beginning chain an even number that can be divided by 8. (the pattern is worked in a multiple of 8). If you do shorten the beginning chain, I think you can still follow the pattern as written with the only difference being the stitch counts at the end of the rounds.

I'd love to hear how it turns out.

Thank you, Kate. This is an adult poncho and you probably won't have to enlarge it to fit you, but if you do, it's OK with me. Looking back at the pattern, I see I neglected to put a size and a gauge on this pattern. I'll have to remedy that soon. Hope you enjoy the pattern.

Thank you, Tink. This poncho uses 1 skein of Caron Pounder, which is 16 ozs. There is 826 yards in the pounder and it will take almost all of the skein. I would recommend you purchase at least 826 yards of yarn, even though you will have some left over. Good luck with your project.
