I love this pattern. I made this stole for my daughter to wear with her prom dress. She looked beautiful. Thanks so much for your idea.

Hi, I'm doing this for my Mum for Christmas, but I'm having trouble on row 8. Is it not supposed to start with "ch1, sc in 1 sc", rather than "sc in next 2 sc"-there is only 1 sc there and then it is a ch-3 sp!
Help!!

Hi. I am planning on making this shawl for my two flowergirls, ages 3 and 6. Any ideas on how long the chain should be for little girls?

I have a question about the pattern for this- would one 440 yard hank of lace weight alpaca yarn be enough to make this stole, if I used a smaller hook?

How are you and Gracie doing?

Greetings! I love this pattern and cannot wait to try it. However, I want to make it for my 8 yr old daughter's 1st Communion next month... how do you suggest I shorten it? What should my starting chain be? I am going to be using Bernat's Baby Coordinates yarn which I don't think should be a problem. I hope you can help me modify the size on this because I'm not very good at figuring these things out on my own :) Thanks! Oh, and my 130# black dog Spike woofs a hello to your Spike!

Hi Dot, i liked ur pattern n trying to make it... but i m having problem in 4th row... can u tell me is there any stitch missing in there?? it is getting pulled up n i m getting very confused in 4th row... thanks..
Dot

Hi Kisha, no, there's no stitch missing. You're going to end up with 3 sc's in a row right there, it will pull your work a little, but don't worry, it will work out. Just keep going, I think you'll soon see how the pattern is working up. You'll love how this looks when you hold it up and try it on.

I am trying to work ROW 4 and I'm having a little problem. Is there a stitch missing between "sc in the next sc, sc in the next ch-3 sp"? Is there suppose to be a chain 3 or something there? I'm only a few repeats in but if i have to frog than so be it :0(.

Hi Suze, thanks, glad you like my sites. Sorry I can't help you with the tie, just keep up the "trial and error" until you get it the way you want it. That's how I do it.

Hi Dot
I have been looking everywhere for a crochet necktie pattern. I have been fumbling around trying to make one up myself but they always seem to "lean" -- I'm not getting the the decreases correct. Have you ever tried one? Any hints?

thanks!! (ps I love your page here as well as your blog!!)

Hi Barbara, thank you so much. I truly enjoy sharing my patterns and hearing from people who use them. This is probably my favorite of all pattern stitches. It just looks so beautiful on anything you make from it. OK, to answer your questions...

1. Is it a Rectangle? Yes. It's just a simple rectangle, no shaping involved. The pattern is worked in rows and turns at the end of each row.
2. I use stitch markers frequently to show me where my first and last stitch of a row are. I also use them to mark a specific stitch in a group of stitches. I don't know if I actually used them in this pattern or not, I use them so often, they are automatically a part of my "you need this" list.
3. Is the 194 foundation chain the "length"? Yes. That is the length that drapes across your shoulders and arms. The rows will go from you neck down your back.

Good luck with this project and if you need my help, email me at bythehook7647 (at) yahoo (dot) com.

Hi, Dot. Your work is gorgeous, and I am trully impressed by how generous you are in sharing and helping us all. I am a "new" crochet-er. I would LOVE to do try your "elegant lace stole" but I have a question or two:

1. Is it a rectangle? (Because of the draping and the overprinting on the pix it looks like there might be some shaping)
2. I've never used stitch markers, and the pattern doesn't say where to use them. Can you tell me?
3. Is the 194 foundation chain the "length" -- the part that goes across my arms and back, while the "rows" go from my neck down my back?

HI, I am looking for a stitch pattern. It is a 7 shell stitch made with double crochet. The next row is double crochet in the top of the shells, with a V formed at the small end of the shell. Does anyone have this. Linda

Hi Theresa, thank you, I'm glad you like the pattern. It's been one of the most popular I have. I've never used microspun so I can't advise you from personal experience, but you should be alright using it. you might need to make more rows to get it wide enough to suit you. Good luck with your project.

Hi Dot...I LOVE your patterns, and am looking to try this one out. I am just itching to try it in Lion Brand Microspun, as this yarn is soooo soft and gorgeous! As I'm sure you know, Microspun is a sport weight yarn, so I think I will have to add on to the rows a bit. Do you have any suggestions for me?

Hi Susan. Thank you, I'm glad you like my site and my patterns. I'd love to see pictures of what you've done. Your Elegant Lace Stole sounds gorgeous, I certainly want to see the picture with your daughter modeling. I believe you're right about the * in row *. I went back and looked at my notes and I have it in the wrong spot in my handwritten notes too. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I'll make corrections as soon as I can.

Merry Christmas to you and Happy New Year too.

Hi Dot! LOVE your site, I've made many of your projects. This lovely stole was the most recent. I made it in this very shade of lavendar with deep purple fun fur trim. .it turned out beautifully! (I have a picture of my daughter modeling it I will send you)..I just wanted to add, in doing row 8 it seemed the * to repeat the pattern might be in the wrong position ..should it appear before chain 5 rather than sc in next chn 3 space? Thank you for your wonderful patterns!
