RUFFLED BABY BONNET

RUFFLED BABY BONNET

size: 3 to 6 months; skill: intermediate; hook size: J/10-6.00mm (I used a boye) yarn: red heart giant - multicolor 4 ply worsted weight, color-toddler print; approximately 2oz/112 yds; other supplies: yarn needle, scissors, something to use as stitch marker; stitches: chain (ch); single crochet (sc); double crochet (dc); slip stitch (sl st); other abbreviations used: ea = each; sk = skip

INSTRUCTIONS

round 1: ch3 (counts as 1 dc), 11 dc in first ch. Join in first dc, place marker in join. (12 dc)

round 2: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in same st as join, *2 dc in next st. repeat from * around. end with dc in st with marker, remove marker. join in first dc. (24 dc)

round 3: ch 2(counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in same st as join, *1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around, leave last 4 sts unworked. Turn (30 dc)

Pattern will now be worked in rows, turning at each end.

row 4: ch 2(does not count as dc), 1 dc in first st, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts. Repeat from * across. turn (38 dc)

Piece measures 5 3/4" measured across widest part

work row 5 in back loops only except the first and last stitch of the row will be worked in both loops.
The front loops will be used later for the ruffles

row 5: ch 1, sc in next st, *dc in next st, sc in next st. Repeat from * across. turn (38 sts)

all rows are now worked with dc in sc and sc in dc. start and end ea row with a sc even if it means 2 sc in a row.

row 6: work this row in both loops of sts across. ch 1, sc in first st, *dc in next st, sc in next st. Repeat from * across, end with sc in last st. turn (38 sts)

row 7 thru 12: repeat rows 5 and 6.

row 13: repeat row 5 - do not turn.  

row 14: ch 30 (for tie), sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in ea ch back down to hat edge. sc evenly around bottom edge of hat to next corner, ch 30 for 2nd tie, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in ea ch back down to hat edge. sc evenly around edge of hat to first tie, join. fasten off

ruffle: with front of hat facing you, attach yarn in the first free loop, *ch 3, sc in next st, repeat from * across. fasten off at end of row.
repeat ruffle row 4 times more.
fasten off and weave in ends

I love the "Dot" patterns. I do free style crocheting sometimes, but nothing like you create!
I am always looking for things for kids from the 1 year size on up, and you always have something...thanks for a site that I can really "get into".
