YEEHAW LADY from The Happy Hooker
I'm published again. This time in the Happy Hooker, on page 115. The Yeehaw Lady is my design, that's it on the front cover of the book. Sorry to report there are a couple typos in it, but I've copied and pasted the corrections for you here, under the picture. Hope you enjoy the pattern and the book.
Corrections to YeeHaw Lady quoted from "Stitch 'n Bitch Crochet:
The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller"...

Hi - I have a question about the hat - i have started and ripped it out about 10 times. in Round 7 it says to place a marker in each of the last 4 increases. Does that mean for the next 4 rows? I am pretty new to crochet so the lingo is still new to me. :)

I was making hats and started playing around ... and thought
how neat it would be to do a cowboy hat
and then I googled 'crocheted cowboy hat'
and low & behold found your pattern. I'm an avid knitter
and crocheter and have never had any problems with guage.
I've never had to go up or down in needle or hook sizes,
that is, until now. But I'm using Lion Cotton, as you suggest
and have made four gauage swatches. I'm down to a G hook
and it's still too big. Currently, it's 4 3/8 X 4 1/4.
Any suggestions ? I'm at a total loss.

Hi Dot,
Is there a pattern you can share (that is not copyrighted) for a Cowboy Type Hat designed for a man or can you share modifications for the Yeehaw Lady Pattern...From posted comments this pattern seems to have been very challenging although the resulting hat is wonderful. I would like to make it for my son but am unsure how to go about it as I have not really done much adapting of patterns.
thanks. | |

Hi Dot,
I'm fairly new to crocheting but am trying to complete the Yeehaw Lady hat from the Stitch 'n Bitch- I like a good challenge. I'm a bit confused by your correction posted for Rnd 2, "..., sk first sc sc,…." Should this be "sk first sc, sc in next sc," or just "sk first sc," possibly? Thanks! I'm looking forward to learning from more of your patterns.

Hi Dot,
I lurve this hat. But I'm having trouble reading the sticthes. I have already frog it twice.
At Rnd 2 i got it right with 15sc. But then after that i keep having an extra stitch out. Do you count in the last slip stitch on each round in the parentheses?
thanx so much, lurve your work

I am going out west on my vacation next week (I

I have tried e-mailing many times in the past, only to be kicked off with I hit POST. Hopefully this time will be the charm.
I am trying to make a Thomas afghan made of granny squares. I have difficulty working one piece afghans of many colors. I tried enlarging the picture with a grid & sectioning off the squares, but it doesn't work. Since I need a solution ASAP (I would like to get this done by August), I though maybe your creative designers would be able to resolve this problem. I would greatly appreciate any help. My e-mail address if you prefer is fpd48@aol.com

Dot, Hi, I'm new to your blog. I love the hat in Happy Hooker; thanks for confirming what I knew had to be typos. I was up until 2AM working on it - it's coming out great. Adrienne had the same question I have: how to make the circumference bigger. I was just going to go up two hook sizes (I'm using H since I tend to crochet loosely) and get the extra room that way. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hey, I thought that was your pattern. Cool. And I got the book too.
All the best. | |

maybe i am slow or something but what does working in a spiral mean as per instructions in rnd 9
 | | | Dot April 7, 2006 01:02 PM PDT
Hi Adrienne, I'm sure it can be done, but unfortunately, I don't know how to do it. I'd suggest doing one more increase round (round 14) and see if that helps.

I recently bought Debbie Stoller "Happy Hooker" book. I fell in love with the Yeehaw Lady hat. I am dying to start the pattern, but I need to increase the circumference of the hat, Can this be done? Please advise.

Hi Brandy, Thanks, glad you like it. Sorry your daughter had to frogn her hat and I hope she doesn't have to do it again. I just posted another correction for round 7. Hopefully, she's not there yet.
 | | | Dot March 31, 2006 07:03 PM PST
Hi Dani. Wow! How fun was that?! I'd love to meet her. Thanks for spotting that error on round 7. I really appreciate it.

Hey great hat. My daughter is making it now and I just remembered you posted corrections for it and now she has to rip out a few rounds. She is now complaining that I should have remembered soon. Well great job.
 | | | Dani March 29, 2006 06:40 PM PST
Hi Dot, just wanted to stop by and say Hi there. I live in Tampa and got to meet Debbie today at a book signing at a LYS. It was so cool to see and touch the hat before making it. She had such wonderful things to say about you and all the other people who contributed patterns.
I always love seeing what comes off your hook. Keep up the wonderful work and no worries about having to write everything down.
Take care, Dani | |

How exciting to be published! I am so glad crochet is coming back strong, it's so much more flexible than knitting. Let me know if you need anyone to test your patterns!
I've bookmarked you now, so I'll be back!!
 | | | Dot March 23, 2006 09:45 PM PST
Thank you, Juliene, I'm pretty happy about this too.
 | | | Dot March 23, 2006 09:44 PM PST
Thanks Anna. It's nice to be known.

HOLY SMOKES DOT! Congratulations! That is SOOOO cool and I'm SOOOO happy for you!
 | | | Anna March 22, 2006 11:01 PM PST
Hi Dot! I saw the pattern in the book and almost yelled with happiness bc I "know" you. :) It's one of the reason I bought the book. Congrats!! :D
 | | | Dot March 21, 2006 03:27 AM PST
Hi Karen, Debbie Stoller saw my Giddyup Go hat and contacted me to see if I'd like to sell the pattern to her. I ended up developing Yeehaw Lady, a new pattern that I sold to her, giving her all rights to the pattern. What that means is she now owns the pattern and I no longer have the right to print it or give it away.
Thanks for your advice. I hope to be back to my old self soon.

Hi Dot! Im curious... When they publish your patterns, do they ask your permission and then publish or do they publish and just give you credit for it? I am just curious as to how that works. That's too bad that they miscommunicated your pattern too. At least we know how to make it correctly :)
Keep up the good work and dont feel obligated to write up the patterns. To keep crochet something that you love to do, work at your own pace and only do what YOU want to do. :) We like to see Dot happy. That is the most important thing.
