Skill: intermediate…this is an easy pattern to do but I rated it intermediate because you need to know how to do a treble crochet.
Stitches: chain (ch); single crochet (sc); double crochet (dc); treble crochet (tr); Abbreviations used: sk – skip; ea – each; sts – stitches; sp(s) – space(s); Here's a link to Annie's Attic stitch guide http://www.anniesattic.com/crochet/content.html?type_id=S
Yarn: any medium weight yarn will work. I used Mainstays, Walmart's brand, now discontinued.
Stole used 10 oz of mainstays (I had 2 8oz skeins) Scarf used 4 oz of mainstays (about ˝ of 1 8oz skein)
Hooks: L/11-8 mm for starting chain and K/10.5-6.50 mm for pattern.
Gauge: I don't know, didn't think it would matter much since they're just rectangles and you can make them as long and wide as you want.
Pattern is worked in multiple of 18 + 8
With L hook, ch 224. Switch to K hook
ROW 1: dc in 8th ch from hook *ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * to end. turn
ROW 2: ch 5 (counts as 1 dc and 2 ch throughout), sk first dc, dc in next dc, *ch 4, tr in next 4 dc, ch 4, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * to end. Place last dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch of previous row. turn
ROW 3: ch 5, sk first dc, dc in next dc *ch 4, sc in next 4 tr ch 4, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * to end. Place last dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch of previous row. turn
ROW 4: ch 5, sk first dc, dc in next dc *ch 4, sc in next 4 sc ch 4, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * to end. Place last dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch of previous row. turn
ROW 5: repeat row 4
ROW 6: ch 5, sk first dc, dc in next dc *ch 2, (tr in next sc, ch 2) 4 times dc in next dc ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * to end. Place last dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch of previous row. turn
ROW 7: ch 5, sk first dc, dc in next dc *ch 2, (dc in next tr, ch 2) 4 times, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * to end. Place last dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch of previous row.
SCARF: skip to edging
STOLE: repeat rows 2 thru 7 3 more times or until stole is as wide as you want
EDGING ROUND 1: sc evenly around as follows: 2 sc in ends of ea row on short sides, 2 sc in ea ch space on the long sides and have 7 sc in ea corner. Place a marker in 4th sc in corners to mark center. Join in first sc. do not turn
ROUND 2: ch 1, sc in ea sc around. 3 sc in marked stitches. Move markers to center st of the 3 sc. Join in first sc.
ROUND 3 – 4: repeat round 2.

Angela October 16, 2008 02:33 PM PDT I'd done this spiderweb pattern before, something I got out of an afghan square book, but I'm at college right now so when I was looking to incorporate this pattern into a shawl I'm making for my great aunt and I didn't have the book I was going a little batty. But then I found this and you went and already did the pattern for me! You just rocked my world a little. =) Thanks a million!
