I love the way you write your patterns - they are so easy to follow and the pictures are beautiful!

Hi Leslie, glad you like my patterns. I think that my first few hat patterns tend to run on the small side. I was making them to fit the foam head models I have with no thought to the actual size needed to fit an adult. I'd say go ahead and try the N hook, it will definitely make the hat bigger.

Hi Dot,
I would just like to say first that your patterns are wonderful... I've made a few of your ponchos for friends/family and they absolutely love them.
A problem I seem to be running into is for the EZ Breeze hat... it's too small as mentioned by a person before. I was wondering if it's just me or that there might be an error in the hat pattern? I used the K size, and it seems like it would fit a child fine. Do you think I should just bump up to maybe an N size?
Thank you! | |

You're not bugging me Holly. I'm glad you like my patterns enough to want to make them and I'm especially glad that you bring problems to my attention. If it makes you feel better, you are not the only one to say the sassy hat is too small I didn't do anything about it before because the one I was wearing fit me OK. Now I can't find that one, so I don't know if I made it differently or not. Anyway, I'll get Sassy fixed for you. Just hang in there.

That's ok, I don't mind. I will try the link to see if I can figure out what size I need. I am assuming that I could add a row or two of ch 5's to make the crown wider, and more ch 4's to make it longer? The crown wasn't too bad, but when I got to the ch 3's, it got WAY too tight to even stretch over my head. Maybe I have a big head. Haha!
I really do love your designs, Dot. That's why I am bugging you with my problems with the patterns....I REALLY want to make them. Otherwise I'd have given up by now. Hehe.

Holly, you're not doing anything wrong. I think it's the patterns that are small. I just did the crown to Sassy and it only measures 6" across at the end of row 5. That makes the finished hat about 19" not 22" like I stated on the pattern. the crown of the hat (flat circle) should measure 6 1/2" to make a 20" hat; 7" for a 22" hat and 7 1/3; for a 23" hat and about 7 2/3 for a 24" hat. Here's a link to a calculator that will help figure sizes. http://www.csgnetwork.com/circlecalc.html
Sorry your having such a hard time with my patterns.

:( I am having problems again. I checked my guage, and the hat is just WAY too small!? It barely covers the crown of my head on round 7. I don't understand what I could be doing wrong. I love your hats Dot, but I can't seem to make them. :( Any advice?

Dot, thanks so much - your generosity in providing these patterns is beautiful. I just now finished this hat (my first crocheted hat ever) and am so proud of the effect! It's beautiful :) Thanks, again.

Hehe- that looks like frosting on a cake. Very original. Know what it reminds me of? Something that would be worn at the winter Olympics. Yay!
