Row 1: ch 4, 11 dc in 1st ch, join in 4th ch of beg ch. (12 sts)

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as join, 2 dc in each st around. Join in top of ch 3. (24 sts)

Row 3: Ch 3, dc in same st as join, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) around. Join in top of ch 3. (36 sts)

Dot, Maybe you could add this suggestion under your pattern for those crocheting for chemo patients.
I have a friend with cancer that's losing her hair, I added some artificial hair strands underneath where the opening slits are and carried it down for bangs. This way you see the hair thru the slits as well as the bangs and it now appears that she has hair. I used dark brown since that was her hair color, plus it shows up nicely against the burgundy I used.
Thank you for sharing all your wonderful patterns Dot.
In Christ, Linda

Hi Penney. Of course I don't mind. I love it when my patterns are used for charity. That way I feel like I get to share in donating to the charity. I'm sure your gifts will be greatly appreciated. Keep up your good work. Happy hookin'!

I hope you dont mind. Am starting to crochet for local geriatrics home, linus project, and other org that I can find in my area. Trying to "stockpile" for next Dec. Think your x&o cap and butterfly are easy enough to make fast & I can just add a scarf to make a complete gift.

Dot,
I am so glad i came across your site. A very dear friend of mine was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, and she is just in such a depression, that i decided to find some cancer cap patterns to make for her to try to brighten her day.

this is a very cute pattern, and i can already picture doing it in multi colors. THANK YOU!

Hi Rachel, no, the tie around her neck is just to dress her up a bit. It's not a part of the pattern, it's just a long chain that I slip stitched in every chain, then I put it around her neck like a scarf.

I noticed on the maniquin that there are ties around her neck, that's part of the pattern right, part of the hat?
It's cute, I like that!
I just printed it off.
I hope I get the time to make it! I'll be sad if I don't! :(
LOL!
Thanks!

I'm no expert but this hat was a breeze to make and my daughter loves it. She has a small head but I still repeated row six and it fits perfectly.
Thanks for sharing :-)

Hi Gail. Thank you, I'm glad you like this hat. I think it's absolutely wonderful that you've used it for chemo patients, that's exactly what I designed it for. I've made a few more of them myself and I've also added 2 extra rows. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your finished hats.

I love this pattern!!! Thanks so much for putting the pattern (for this & others) on-line 8-). I made some as chemo caps in LB Chenille Sensations. I did continuous rounds in some (instead of joins) & they looked almost as good. My stitches are shorter than they are wide, so I added 2 extra Round 6 before starting the butterfly stitch.
Thanks again! ;-D
ps Sorry, I gave them away already, but will send you a picture of the next one I make.

Thanks Leticia, I'm looking forward to getting a picture of your niece and the hat. I can't wear the close fitting hats either. It's a shame, because I love the way they look on other people.

Another great creation Dot. As soon as I make one for my neice, I'll send you a pic. I'd love one for myself, but I have full curly hair and close fitting hats don't look good on me :o(

Hi Chie, I can't wait to see your hat! I'm so glad you like this pattern. I'm not sure what the key to becoming creative is, but my first hat, the pony tail hat, was inspired by my granddaughters with their long hair and their enthusiasm for my crocheting things for them. After that, it seems like each hat sparks an idea for another one.
