SO SIMPLE WIMPLE
copyright © 091404 Dot Matthews

Materials:
L hook for chain
K hook for pattern
ww yarn, 5 oz approximately
gauge: not important
Ch 90, join in 1st ch to form a ring. Be careful not to twist chain.
ROW 1: ch 1, sc in same st as join, ch 1, (sk 1 st, sc in next st, ch 1) around, join in first sc. (45 ch-1 spaces and 45 sc)
ROW 2: turn, (sc in ch-1 space, ch 1) around. Join in first sc. (45 ch-1 spaces and 45 sc)
ROW 3 through 57: repeat row 2. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Note 1: when turning your work, do not ch 1
Note 2: it's not really necessary to count rows, just continue until piece fits the way you like it.
TIP: If you're worried about the chain twisting, replace the beginning chain and row 1 with this... ch 91, sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, sk 1 st, (sc in next st, ch 1, sk next st) across, join in first sc and continue with row 2. A simple stitch when you weave in ends will close the small gap that this will leave.

love all your patterns, just a beginner and can manage most of them. Keep up the good work. A fellow crochet nut....

Hi Kathy, I'm glad you like this pattern, it's one of my favorites. It is very easy and beginner friendly so you probably wouldn't have any trouble making it.

Hello, I like this wimple. The question is, is it easy/beginner? I'm just a beginner. Please let me know. Thanks!
 | | | Dot January 24, 2006 12:38 PM PST
Hi Rheba, of course I want to see your picture. You can email me and attach a picture to the email. My address is bythehook7647 at yahoo dot com. I can't wait to see your wimple.
 | | | Rheba January 24, 2006 11:15 AM PST
Dot, how do I send a picture to you? I'd like you to see this wimple made of Wool in the Woods yarn if you have time and are interested and are set up to receive pics. I am assuming you are on a fast connection? If you aren't set up for them, no problem. Just don't ask me to post to a web site, LOL. I only know how to do my own.

Hi Rheba, I'm glad you like this pattern, it's one of my favorites.

Hey, Cheryl. I checked out your site and I just love what you've done with the wimple. It looks great on you. Thanks for the pattern endorsement and the link to my site. Happy Turkey Day to you to.

Thanks again, Dot, for posting this lovely and easy pattern! Last night, I completed my wimple using an N hook to make it looser and it's just lovely! Photos are posted on my blog at http://www.tamemymind.com/artscrafts/. Happy T-Day!

Hi, Dotsy. You're welcome. I'm glad you like this pattern. It's definitely one of my favorites. This wimple measures 13" by 15". If you're worried about it fitting, try it on. If it fits from the top of your head to under your chin (loosely) it should be all right. Just keep going until it's a long as you want it. When finished, it should reach from your shoulders, up and over your head, covering your neck and head to keep you nice and toasty. It's up to you how big you make it. It depends on how you like it to fit. I would enjoy seeing a picture of yours when you finish. Good luck with your project. Oh, by the way, I love your name!

Hi Dot! Thanks for the beautiful pattern!! Could you give me the measurements of the wimple? I'm making it with double yarn (looks beautiful and extremely warm!) but I'm wondering if it will go over my big head!! Otherwise I'll keep this one as a neckgator and start again!! Mine is about 13" wide. Thanks... you do beautiful work!!

Hi Priscilla. So sorry you had such a hard time with that long beginning chain, but I'm glad you found the tip and it works for you. I think this would look adorable on your daughter.

Thanks for the tip below the Wimple. I was getting so upset, because every time I tried the pattern it would twist and I pulled it out over and over again. I finally quit. Duh!! I didn't even see the tip below on how to do it, if I had trouble with it twisting, till this morning. So much for reading all the way through. I want to make this for my daughter. Thanks so much for the pattern.

Oh, Dorraine, I'm tickled to death that your Mom liked it so much. Thanks for sharing that with me. This is one of my own personal favorites. I can't wait till it gets cold so I can wear it myself.

Hey Dot! I completed the wimple, and my mother loved it so much (so much for the Christmas gift, tee hee) that she wanted me to email your pattern for it to her, so she could send it to her friend's daughter to make for HER mother..
Thanks again and what a wonderful pattern!!!!

Hey, Paula. Glad you like this pattern. It will look fantastic with a row (or 2) of eyelash around it. I did one with Pattons Allure and it's so cute. Let me know how yours turns out.

This sounds great! I think I'll add a row of eyelash yarn around the face.
Thanks for this wonderful pattern!

Hi Julie, I hope your mom likes her wimple. It should keep her warm while she's shoveling snow. I'd love to hear how she likes it.
 | | | Dot October 23, 2004 04:23 PM PDT
Hi MaryAnn, I think it's great that your granddaughter wants a wimple. I think they are great substitutes for hats and scarves. I'd love to hear how she likes it.
 | | | Julie October 20, 2004 09:05 AM PDT
I am so excited to try this. My mom has a big head [we kid her about it all the time. She just has alot of brains!] Anyway it's hard to get her a hat and shoveling our 6 car driveway in the snow requires a hat most definately. This would be PERFECT for her.

I just started your simple wimple for my granddaughter. She was looking for one. Seen one in the state of Wash. I hope she likes it.
 | | | Dot September 27, 2004 06:41 PM PDT
Thanks Cheryl. I'm glad you like it and I hope you'll share a picture when you finish it.

No problem, Roxie, I knew who you meant. Hope your cold gets better soon. I know all about being goofy on medicine.
 | | | Dot September 17, 2004 08:45 PM PDT
Hey, Roxie, I hope your mom likes the wimple. I know I'm looking forward to wearing it this winter if it gets cold enough, and it probably will. I love Yarncats hats, too. Hers are the ones I first made when I leaned to make hats. I love her newsboy pattern. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a message.

Thanks, Becky. I almost didn't include it, but it's such a great tip to keep beginning chains from twisting, I felt like I had to share it. It's something I learned from one of the forums I visit.

Great job again, Dot! And I love the optional start for the wimple.
