Thanks Dot. I decided to use Jiffy yarn which I think is a little thicker than Red Heart yarn, and the K hook.
Thanks again for a beautiful pattern.

Hi Patty, that's me and my 2X self modeling it, so you can get an idea of how large it is. I'd just go up a hook size and maybe make it a little longer.

Hi Dot, Is there any way I could make this for a large 3X. I think my DD would like this but I don't think it would be big enough. I see you use a K hook, should I just go up 1 size hook, or a couple hooks?

Hi Diana, I'm glad you like this poncho. It was very popular when I first created it. That petal stitch border is one of the most difficult pattern stitches I've ever tried to explain. It might help you if you took a look at the tutorial I made for the Lizzy Hat. It's listed under tutorials on the left side of the page. Here's a link to the tutorial.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I LOVE this poncho! I had bought some yarn and was looking for a poncho to make with it and found this and it's the same Color!! It was meant to be! But...I'm so confused on this flower border. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. But maybe if you can show me a closeup pic of the border section I can work it out. i've been trying for HOURS! Maybe I just need to take a break and get some sleep.
Anyway Thanks so much for posting this pattern! If i can't figure it out I'll improvise it somehow!

I have found lots of your patterns that I would like to make.....but I have a problem printing the pattern. I get the right side(left side facing monitor)of your web page but some of the instructions do not print and I also get all your answers to e-mails printed. Is there a way to just copy the instructions without all the rest of your page.

Hi again, Monique. I'm glad it's looking the right size now. I was a little worried about that. Take a look at the Flower Hat Tutorial at this link
http://bythehook.blogdrive.com/archive/97.html
It will show you what it looks like to hold the last loop of each stitch on the hook. I know it's a little confusing, let me know if I can help you with it.

You betcha I want to see a picture of your finished poncho. I'd love to put it in my "hall of fame" album, with your permission, of course.

Hi again. I am to row 20 and it is looking to be around the right size now. Especially when I judge the extra inches for the border. As far as 8ply vs 4ply, the yarn is about twice as thick. Which will hopefully make a heavier weight poncho for winter. The border row is somewhat confusing, with the "ch 6, holding last loop of eas st on hook, 2 dtr in 6th ch from hook (3 loops on hook)" unless I am just reading it wrong. Does one really leave "the last loop of EACH st on the hook" or just ch 6 and THEN a dtr? Oh, and while I think of it, would you be interested in seeing a picture of it when it is done, due to the different yarn and hook size?
Cheers

Hi Monique. This poncho is an adult size and is actually quite large. I used a K hook which says it's 6.5 mm on the side. The yarn I used is 4 ply. You still have 6 more rounds before you put on the border and the border will add about another 3 to 4 inches. I don't know how the yarn you're using compares to what I used. Sorry I can't be any more help than that.
Monique
January 20, 2005   05:34 PM PST

Hi,

I have started this poncho, and have gotten to round 15, but it is looking somewhat smaller than in the picture. I am using a 6mm hook and 8 ply yarn. I'm in Australia so our yarn isn't in "weight's." The one I am making is for an adult, so I was wondering whether your pattern was geared for a child or adult?

cheers,
Monique

Hi Sherri, This pattern is pretty large, and I don't have anything geared toward a size 12. Right off the top of my head, I'd say use a smaller hook, an H or I, and follow the pattern. I'm sorry I don't have time to devote to this project, but I will be thinking about it and if I come up with something, I'll be sure to post it here.

Happy Holidays to you and your.

"I am having quite a time with Row 2 of the Lizzy Poncho. In each corner stitch of Row 2 are there to be, 1. the last part of the previous crossed bar stitch (CBS) , 2. TWO increased clusters, and 3. the first part of the next CBS ?"

YES!

Use your markers as a guide to where the corners will go. I worked round 2 and here's how my numbers worked out.

5 cbs to 1st marker
13 cbs to 2nd marker
12 cbs to 3rd marker
8 cbs to beginning of round

Email me at bythehook7647 at yahoo dot com so I can send some pictures. I did find some errors so I will make another Lizzy to correct them.

Hi Dot, Glad you had a wonderful visit with your Mom..as also did Spike. What a beautiful woman she is..as is her issue! Thank you for sharing your creations and life with us. I know you are busy so I apologize in advance with my question. I am having quite a time with Row 2 of the Lizzy Poncho. In each corner stitch of Row 2 are there to be, 1. the last part of the previous crossed bar stitch (CBS) , 2. TWO increased clusters, and 3. the first part of the next CBS ? I have been stitching #s 1 and 3 from above and making ONE INC cluster in the corner. Along each square edge, I am unable to skip a stitch with the CBS when I come to the corner..so at the corner the stitching is a bit dense. Also along each square edge I am getting 13 CBSs, not including the corner CBS(s). I am working with WoolEase and I found it challenging working with a K hook, as the WoolEase loose-twisted threads separate, so I use an I hook and with the same number of stitches the "square" fits over my head ok. For my second Lizzy I am thinking, instead of joining to make a circle, to leave it open and make a button band, so the poncho (or shawl then?) slips around the shoulders. As I donate to a local nursing home, I was asked to have the button band as the women do not like to have their hair "mussed". Thank you for "listening" to my confusion. BIG hugs to you and Spike. Take care.

Hi Mary, I emailed you with a word document attachment of the Lizzy Poncho. Have you tried to highlight the pattern, then copy it and then paste it in a word document on your computer and then print that? That's what I do with patterns I find on the web. That way I only get the pattern and not the other stuff on the site. I hope you enjoy the pattern.

Hi Leigh, glad you found something you like and good luck teaching her how to crochet. She'll really thank you for it in years to come. I'm still thanking my Mom. I'd love to hear about your progress.

Now, what is a magic scarf? It's a knit tube scarf that can be warn as a hood, or a neck scarf or a shoulder wrap or a belt, or a ... just about anything you can think of. I've only seen pictures of it, I've never made one, but it sure sounds interesting. Here's a link to pictures showing it being worn. http://www.jewelry-handbag.com/scarves.aspx

Dot, I am truly amazed at your abilities. Do you have faries that help you get all the crocheting done???? Your designs are superb in their own right, but to be able to work them up that quickly! Talk about smokin' hooks! Congrats on another design well done!

Just wanted to say your patterns are cute and I commend you for doing so much design on your own AND taking the time to share it!

WOW Dot I love this new poncho it is spectacular.(spelling?) I copied it. I also put some progree pictures on my sites so you can see it. I love it. I made the Simple Wimple smaller more like a cowl neck but I actually can still pull it up and cover my ears and most of head. I did a different poncho cause I wanted the arms round not pointed but I love it. My hubby says I should try and sell this one on E-bay but I told him since I kinda used your simple wimple pattern that would be up to you. So let me know.
