BROOMSTICK LACE, ANYONE?

I've always loved the way the broomstick lace stitches look, so I decided to try my hand at a hat using that stitch. I've tried to explain how to do the stitch, but in case you have trouble understanding my directions, I've listed a few sites that have better instructions and pictures on how to do broomstick lace.

http://www.crochetcabana.com/specialty/ltc-broomstick_lace_jiffy_lace_.htm

http://crochet.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.keyway.net%2Fcrafts%2Fbslace.htm

Here's the pattern for my newest hat, Lovely in Lace. It hasn't been tested, so if/when you find errors, please let me know and I'll make corrections.

CORRECTIONS

I made some corrections to the Flower Hat AKA Lizzy Hat. I reworded some of the rows in order to make the instructions clearer. In row 7 I included instructions to join at the end of the row, and I corrected the note following row 7 to read "Row 8" instead of "row 3.

POOR, POOR PITIFUL ME

The good news is...I don't have carpal tunnel, or, so they say. The bad news is...I have tendonitis. Waaaa! Whatever it is, the treatment is immobilize it, rest it, and take anti inflammatory pills. (Oh, goody, just what I needed, another pill.)
tendonitistendonitis
I can still hold a hook, but the doctor said GIVE IT A REST! He didn't say for how long, though. I'm thinking 2 weeks. What do you think? I can't believe the crochet withdrawal I'm having. I'm worried I'm going to forget how.

Poor, poor, pitiful me.

BY REQUEST

Lilhatshack saw this choker in my album and asked if I had a pattern for it. The choker pictured here was done without a pattern and by the time I got around to writing a pattern, I had forgotten how I had made it. I recreated it as close as possible and wrote a pattern as I was making it, but sent the choker off to be photographed without taking a picture of it myself. So, if you notice some differences between the picture and your finished choker, that's why. OK then, without further ado...This one's for you Carmen.

WHAT A GREAT DAY!!!

Hats, hats and more hats. I love to make hats. Ever since I made my first hat I've enjoyed making them. I can't seem to stop making hats. My problem is, my family doesn't wear them, my friends don't wear them and I only wear them to cover up my raggedy head when I have to go out and don't have the energy to wash my hair. The solution to my problem is to donate what I make to charity. Not only does it solve my problem of no one in my family to wear them, it satisfies my need to keep making them. And as if that's not enough reason to keep making them, throw in the HUGE feeling of warmth and love that overcomes me when I deliver them. I will probably never see the people who will wear these hats, but it's enough to know the hats will be worn by people who really need them.

 121 hats ready for delivery

I ended up with 91 hats for the homeless, and 30 hats for chemo patients. I delivered these hats to the Human Services Department yesterday, and I know they will get to the people who need them quickly. And, as soon as my wrists rest for awhile I'll start a new batch of hats for next year. I think I'll set a goal of 200 hats for next year. I think I can meet that.

I wish everyone a Happy and Safe New Year. Celebrate all you want in whatever way you want, but please be sensible and don't drive and drink.

100 UBW HATS

I met my goal of 100 UBW hats on Christmas day at 6:00 p.m. and I'm paying the price for it now. I will have to lay the hook down for awhile and let the wrists rest. I've never been bothered with carpal tunnel before but I sure am now. I hope resting it will make it all better, but I'm afraid I've pushed it too far this time and will have to get the doctor involved. I can't stand not crocheting. I need a hook in my hand.
