Yarn: 236 yds Bernat Baby Coordinates - white (poncho pictured took about 1/2 of a 6 oz skein) -  75.2% acrylic; 22.2% acetate; 2.6% nylon
Supplies used: scissors, blunt needle, tape measure, stitch marker, 1 to 2 yds ribbon
Gauge: 9 sc = 2"
Measurements: wrist to wrist = app 19"; neck to hem measurement = 7" at point,
Stitches used: chain, single crochet, double crochet, slip stitch;
Abbreviations: ch = chain; sc = single crochet; dc = double crochet; sl st = slip stitch; tog = together; ea = each; st(s) = stitch(es); sk = skip; beg = beginning; sp = space

PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS

FOUNDATION: ch 80, join with sl st to first sc, be careful not to twist ch.

ROUND 1: ch 4, *sk next ch, dc in next ch, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join in 3rd ch of beg ch. (40 dc, 40 ch-1 sps)

ROUND 2: sl st in first ch-1 sp, ch 6 (counts as first dc and chain 3), dc in same st, ch 3,

TIP:  for larger sizes, repeat round 7, 8, and 9 until poncho is as long as you want. End with round 9, then do finishing round and neck edge.

ROUND 2: ch 1, sc in same st as join,
*ch 3, sk next 2 sts, sc in next st. Repeat from * around, end with ch 3, sk next 2 sts, join in first sc. 

ROUND 3: sl st in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, 3 sc in same sp, *3 sc in next sp. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. 

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Weave ribbon through round 1 of poncho. Tie in a bow.

I finally got around to taking some better pictures of the scrap happy scarf. Pictured here with the UBW hats, you can see the difference in the russian join method and the magic ball method. I updated the pattern with the better pictures so if you have it printed out already and want to have the new picture on your pattern, you'll have to print it out again. Anyway, here's the pictures.

SIZE: 17" circumference, use J/10 6mm hook (pictured)

TIP: Count your stitches before you join the round. Count beginning chain as a dc, but do not join rounds in the beginning chain. Joining in the first real dc instead of the starting chain gives a seamless appearance to the hat.

ROUND 2: ch 2, 2 dc in same st as join, *2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around. End with 1 dc in the join of the previous round (remove marker). Join in the first dc. (24 dc)

ROUND 3: ch 2, 2 dc in same st as join, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st. *repeat from * around. (36 dc)

ROUND 4: ch 2, 2 dc in same st as join, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around, end with 1 dc in last st. Join in first dc. (48 dc)

TIP: with G hook piece should measure 4 1/2"; with H hook piece should measure 5"; with J hook, piece should measure 5 1/2".

ROUND 5: ch 2, 4 dc in same st as join,

I decided the sweater needed a hat with ear flaps to make it a set, so here's Lil Darlin' Baby Hat. My first attempt at ear flaps, so don't laugh! Pattern will follow sometime. (I hope)

I had to make another Bows and Arrows Poncho to check on the stitch count so I made it with baby yarn and a size G hook. The results are a child sized poncho. Unfortunately, I don't know what size child this poncho will fit. The poncho measures 20" around the neckline and is 10 1/2" from neckline to hemline. Here's a picture of it on my model, Lee. I think Lee's about the size of a 3 month old. Can anyone tell me what size this poncho is?

I'm sick this week and haven't felt like doing much of anything and that's really bad when you don't do anything to start with. I've done a lot of sleeping. Yes, I really do sleep but this is getting rediculous. OK, enough of the pity party.

Do you have a stash of scrap yarns? You know the ones I'm talking about. The short ends that aren't enough to make anything with but are just too good to toss. Yeah, me too. I've got a rubber maid tub full of little balls of yarn and was just about on the verge of starting a 2nd tub, but decided to try to use up some of what I've accumulated. I'm making scarves to go along with the UBW hats I donate every year. I've found that if I hold 1 strand of solid color yarn and then randomly add the scrap balls of yarn as the 2nd strand, I get a very nice scarf and the added bonus is there is never 2 alike. Best of all, if you use the Russian Join Method to attach your yarns together, you won't have any ends to weave in. Another option and a different look is to use the Magic Ball method and the ends become a part of the pattern. Using either method, it takes a few minutes to prepare your scrap yarn for use, but the end product is worth it.

I'm posting a pattern for the scarf I'm making now. They're quick, easy, and so soft because they use a large hook.
