SUCCESS STORIES

I work for compliments. Payment for my patterns has always been the pleasure they give to others. I love knowing how a pattern turned out for you. I get comments and emails from time to time, telling me how much you enjoyed using the pattern and how much someone loved it when you gave it to them. So I decided to give myself a raise and start posting them here where I can read them whenever I need a boost. Oh, you can read them too, if you want.

If you have a story you want to share, email me at "by the hook 7647(no spaces) at yahoo dot com". Pictures are always nice too. Don't forget I have a hall of fame and I'd love to hang your picture there.

SUCCESS STORIES

Lisa says (about Sassy Child hat)...Dear Dot, I've had trouble finding a hat pattern small enough for my petite head, but not looking childish. This one's terrific! I added a few rows for depth of crown & finished with a wire woven in the brim so I can shape it. Thank you for your creative patterns & generosity of sharing. --Lisa

Jean says...My 9 year old Granddaughter requested a poncho for Christmas. I got on the net and found your site. I saw Bows and Arrows and fell in love with it. Your patterns are really beautiful! I used a H hook and the poncho came out great. My Granddaughter loved it and it looked so cute on her. Thank you so much.

Barbara says...Hi Dot, I just made my first UBW hat. I gave it to my grandson and he kept it on all evening. Only taking it off when his mom said he couldn't sleep in it LOL.. thank you very much!!

GIFT FROM AN ANGEL

I received a surprise in my email a few days ago in the form of another gift certificate to Herrshner's. I sent a thank you email right away, but I just realized I hadn't thanked my angel here. So, let me tell you how much I was touched by your act of kindness. I am overwhelmed with your generous gift and will put it to good use, you can be sure. Thank you so much. You truly are an angel.

GIFT CERTICATE LOOT

I finally got my order from Herrschner's yesterday and I was so excited I couldn't wait to open the box and have a look at what I got. It took a lot longer to receive this order this time due to some problem with my order. Apparently they got the order but didn't fill it for some reason. It's like it just got lost on someone's desk. Not complaining because I've always had good service with them before and the customer service people were very nice and got my order filled and sent right away as soon as I contacted them. Want to see what I got? Good, here's a picture.

Giftcerticatepurchase.jpg

The picture doesn't really do that pile of yarn justice. This is the inventory of what's there:

4 skeins of Red Heart Fiesta - black with a gold thread
2 skeins Rainbow Tones - natural
4 skeins Patons Fresco - ocean
1 skein Red Heart Giant Pounder - black
1 skein Red Heart Giant Pounder - Toddlerprint
1 skein Red Heart Giant Pounder - Meadowprint
2 Skeins Red Heart Kids - crayon
4 skeins Patons Astra - denim mix
2 skeins Patons Canadiana - walnut brown
1 skein Bernat Softee Baby - His Jeans
1 Luxite Crochet Hook set
1 Silvalume Crochet Hook set

That's 22 skeins of yarn! Oh, happy stash!

Thank you again to the wonderful person who sent me this gift certificate. You truly are a special angel.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Make the 2nd one just like the first one.

Or…if you're tired of this project and want to move on, make a chain and attach it
to the larger end like a loop so you can hang it up and use it as a grocery bag
keeper.

CUSTOM FIT
Measure around the leg, just below the knee.
Follow the pattern instructions for the top ribbing and stop when it's 1" shorter than that measurement. Make sure your number of rows in the ribbing is divisible by 8.
Measure the length of the leg from just below the knee to the ankle.
Follow the pattern instructions until the leg is as long as that measurement, end with a row 6.
Follow the instructions for the ankle ribbing.
You will have a leg warmer that will fit the intended leg. Remeber that if you are working from the custom fit measurements your stitch count at the end of rows will be different from what is written in my pattern.

RIBBING TECHNIQUE

I use a ribbing technique in some of my designs that is hard for some people to understand. Since the project I'm working on right now uses this ribbing, I decided to take pictures of it as I make it. The stitch count in the pictures is just for the project I'm working on now, it will probably be different in any other projects, but the technique is the same. Click the picures to enlarge.
